DIY Jellyfish puppet craft inspired by Jellyfish Discovery at Sea Life Aquarium LEGOLAND

Recently Kayla and I checked out the Jellyfish Discovery exhibit at Sea Life Aquarium in LEGOLAND California thanks to my friend Xenia and the amazing folks at LEGOLAND.  You can check out our fun girl's night adventure.   We had a blast and did an easy jellyfish puppet craft while we were there.  So I figured I might as well show you my version of it so you can try it at home with your kids.

All you need are some cheap-o coffee filters (the white scalloped kind, not the cone ones) some crepe paper and ribbons and wiggle eyes are optional and anatomically inaccurate but of course just WAY cuter.

Simply take 2 or 3 coffee filters and wrap them around a disc-like object.  Search around your house and see what you can find that works.  I wound up finding this old silly drink cup lid which was perfect for forming the jellyfish bell shape.

Once I had made the shape by wrapping the paper around the lid I popped the lid out.  The paper pretty much keeps the shape of what you wrap it around.

Then I cut some tentacle options from colored crepe paper and ribbons.  You can choose to get colorful like I did or keep them in the neutral/white family for a more realistic jellyfish look.  Obviously, you can imagine which option kids tend to prefer.

Kayla had a ball taping on the little tentacles. As soon as she was done we just flipped the jellyfish over and added some stick on wiggle eyes.  If you are thinking of making a backdrop for a party you can do that easily with blue crepe paper for an ocean-like effect and attach the jellyfish using glue spots.  Since the coffee filters make them very lightweight, they will actually stick to it, no problem.
