Hape Stormy Seas Balance Game - Even Dad Likes It!

Kayla received this Hape pirate ship balance game last holiday season and having learned a few lessons in recent years I waited several months to give it to her. Between the holiday gifts and birthday gifts things were just out of control and I wanted her to appreciate this beautifully made game.

Cure summer boredom and play dress up with space camp!

This week I investigated dress up costumes for kids and decided to create a space camp as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® I was amazed at the selection I found on Costume Express #Unplug2Play #cbias

Hello and welcome to the middle of summer break!  If you're like most parents then you rushed out of the gates with lots of day trips, educational activities and creativity.  By now you're probably feeling a bit spent in the go-go-go department.  This is the tipping point where the concept of allowing the TV babysitter to tack a few more hours onto its schedule becomes very appealing because hey, it's free help after all.

I'll be at #BlogHer13 will you? Here's why...

Well oh-em-gee!  It's that time of year again where millions (okay, thousands) of women with similar interests flock to one city Fleet Week style and mayhem breaks loose.  Okay, perhaps I'm being dramatic here, but this flock does bring a special buzz wherever they go.  I'm talking about BlogHer.

Stand Up to Cancer. Dig In & Do Good. Trust me, it feels great. #DoGood #MC

This week I explored MasterCard's new Dig In & Do Good initiative to benefit Stand Up to Cancer as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® And I'd do it 100 times over in the hopes that what I have to say helps make a difference.  To learn more about how you can make a difference you can visit  MasterCard's Dig In & Do Good site.

Once a year my heart stops for a minute as I wait for the words "everything's fine" to come through the receiver of my phone.  There are many fears you have as a parent and a wife.  The C-word is undoubtedly near the top of everyone's list.  This ulcer inducing phone call takes place as my husband is leaving Cedars Sinai from his annual appointment with the doctor who saved his life about 20 years ago.  And no matter how many years go by it's the longest few seconds ever.

Rewarding my little mathematician with a Disney Princess #DreamParty celebration

This week I set out to create a Disney Princess #DreamParty  celebration to reward Kayla and couldn't believe how easy it was to put together.   Just so you know, I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client. #DreamParty #cbias everything you see here is my personal and picky opinion.

Positive reinforcement.  I think it's safe to say that it works in so many applications in life starting with small children and going all the way up the corporate ladder.  You work hard, you accomplish things, you are recognized.  In my eyes how much of a fuss is made about what you've accomplished isn't as important as the fact that someone acknowledges it.  Kids need to hear "I'm so proud of you" followed by why and it's a surefire way to see the good behavior replicated.

DIY Monsters University Party Game + Pre-order

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This week I checked out the pre-order for Monsters University and couldn't resist grabbing one for Kayla, then felt inspired to make this awesome little game. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and its client. #MUPreOrder #cbias

After much anticipation we took Kayla to see Monsters University and there had been so much build up to it that I almost expected to be disappointed.  Wrong.  It was adorable, hilarious and had some good moral messages.  I don't want to spoil anything for you but I will say that there were a lot of games involved in the movie so it only seemed fitting to bring the fun home with us and make a special Monsters University game for Kayla and pre-order the movie so when it's released it shows up in the mail at our home addressed to Kayla.

My Child Has Style + DIY Nerdy Glasses

I'm not very good at the whole Wordless Wednesday thing.  Probably because I am wordy but I just cleaned out my camera's memory card and stumbled upon some cute pics of my favorite precocious 4 year old rocking things that most would consider difficult to pull off.  Therefore I decided to give the grandparents some overdue eye candy.

Girl Scout cookie lover? Behold the Skinny Thin Mint Parfait

I recently checked out some delish Girl Scout cookie candy bars and made this Thin Mint recipe as a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client. #cbias #GSCrunch

Alllllright so generally speaking you know I'm all about healthy this and healthy that BUT you may remember I believe in treating myself when it comes to one thing in particular.  Girl Scout cookies.  Dare I reference my Girl Scout cookie blondies? Having hocked the cookies myself for years and proudly taken home the "I sold the most cookies" badge or something equally braggy they have a place in my heart.  And belly.  I become giddy as soon as I see signs of Girl Scout cookie season.  But sadly, cookie season is done.

Are you afraid of the makeup counter? I was, until I found my perfect foundation match.

Just so you know, I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  I  recently checked out makeup options from Nordstrom and found some I loved from Estee Lauder. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

I guess it's time for me to confess to one more neurotic fear.  My name is Jillian and I was terrified of the makeup counter until now.  Ridiculous, right?  But I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one.  In my eyes, makeup counter fear stems from 3 parts.  1) Fear of being "sold"  2) Fear of being wrong and 3) Fear of looking like I've just stepped off the set of La Cage Aux Folles.

MessMatz - Crafting? Painting? Bring on the mess, no complaints from me!

Do you have a child that constantly begs to paint?  I do!  If it's sticky, messy or stainy then Kayla adores it.  Me? Well, not so much.  Little miss is famous for getting paint and glue all over the table and herself.  In the past I've made her paint outside, but recently MessMatz sent us one of their mats to check out and quite frankly it saved the day with a little bird house painting project I kept putting on the back burner...you know, because of the mess.

We got a new dog! Some tips to keep dogs safe and a new dog gift basket with healthy dog treats

Just so you know, I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  I was recently asked to check out some healthy dog treats made in the USA.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client. #NudgesMoments #cbias

Unless you follow me on Instagram I have to admit, I've been holding out on you.  Mostly because I was nervous, but also because OMG I've been busy!  By now you've met Charger a bunch of times.  He's our lovable, floppy eared dog who has the best permanent eyeliner I've ever seen on man or beast. No really, he does.  Lately I've been feeling guilty.  As you know, guilt is a specialty of mine.  Charger has been doing a lot of this:
